Rogue Sphinx V3 Tube upgrade
« on: 10 Apr 2020, 03:51 pm »
Just got a Rogue Sphinx V3. Wondering what people recommend for tube upgrades. Might keep a set on hand for when they need to be replaced. Also wondering how bright they should be when playing?

12au7. the Sphinx responds well to tube rolling with NOS tubes. Mullard Radio-technique, amperex will all sound great as long as they measure well and are matched.

I'm new to it and not sure what tubes, now I know! lol I'll start doing some research on those. Some of the old stock is crazy money.

If living in US your best option is phone to Andy at VTS and take advantage his huge experience.

I will have to contact Andy, thanks for the info! It sounds great now. Still breaking it in along with the speakers. I just to have them on hand and ready. Now sure how long they last. Was always a NAD guy before this.

I could spend more on tubes then I did for the entire unit lol. Gotta love the Audio hobby !! It would be nice to have a spot to listen to all the different ones. I understand that its not feasible but would be cool.

You can spend more on PC's and interconnects than the whole too.
But you don't have to there are lots out there. A pair of tubes for $60 is not to far out of line.
Do it slowly over time. All of my recommendations were from others using the same equipment.
Pre tubes are not usually run hard and also last. Ask Rogue what they like in there? I know Mark O over there likes Teleies in a Cronus MK II the last I read. Depends on the circuit used too.

The problem is, it ALL makes a difference.
Welcome to the rabbit hole.   :thumb:
