Do they need a warmup period to sound their best as normal amps do?

That's been my experience as well. The sound is very consistent from power up through shut down.

This is not to be confused with break in time however.  My Tripath continued to improve for the first 100+ hours, though that is likely as much due to the Black Gates and Bybees as the amp itself.

Bwana - is yours a boulder version?  Wayne shipped mine today (hopefully).   :D

Greg and dstroot,

What configuration do you have with Boulder Tripath?  I mean, which mods did you ask him to put in beside the Bybees and Black Gates?

Bybees may make a huge difference - but since I've never heard a system with them I passed on them - they sound too much like snake oil for me to pay to try them.

I have no idea if they work or not, but I have a scientific background so I can get my head around why a certain resistor or capacitor can alter the "sound" as well as wire, connectors etc. (although I am very skeptical...usually unless I hear it for myself).  But "quantum purifiers???"   I'd rather have a simple signal path, with high quality components and nothing "added".

I didn't order the Boulder amp until I got a stock $30 SI amp to listen to first - I liked what I heard.  Then I ordered the Boulder amp (and I even added WB nexgen RCAs - more for how cool I think they look then how much I think they will improve the sound so I guess I can be sold snake oil after all)

I guess if I ever come to believe in the bybee scientific breakthrough I can always add 'em later.   :P

Paul,

I was the original guinea pig that asked Wayne to take a look at the Tripath, so the fact that I ended up with a battery-powered amp at all was a pleasant surprise! I have a single set of Bybees on the inputs (I have  bybees on my speakers so I didn't feel the need for another set on the outputs).  I thought about adding them to the power supply but at that time I didn't even know if I would like the amp that much so I held off spending any more. The fundamantal sound of the battery-powered Tripath is so good, I wouldn't sweat the details on upgrades too much.

dstroot, I completely agree. I would only say that if you get the chance, listen to bybees in a removeable configuration and decide for yourself. I agree the explanation of how they work is beyond vague (I have degrees in physics and math so I'm not easily sold with psuedo-science either). I happen to think they improve inner detail and reduce glare based on my personal experience with them (Cyrotweaks speaker-level bybees). I went on that experience when ordering them for the amp.

Thanks dstroot and Greg.  I'm using the ClariT and curious how different it would be from your Boulder unit.
