12Av7 top grade super quiet smooth NOS tube from Philco!
The 12AV7 is a lower gain tube generally used to drop noisy or to much gain circuits in systems with 12AT7 tubes, or even 12AX7. And for the price here to just get them out of the dust you will have a gem for next to nothing.
I have not seen many around these days from a top American tube producer in the 1950's and 1960's. They came from a batch box I acquired years ago.
I tested both of these NOS tubes via actual component thru a Phono preamp and preamp, which was 60 db of gain, this dropped the gain to about 57 db, and they are dead on and dead silent. You get a 3 db drop from 12AT7, and about a 4 to 5 db drop from a 12AX7.
I can tell you this they sound better than most Mullard British tubes with that same tonal character without the super soft bass. So if you have one of those annoying issues with the gain being a bit to "Hot" in your preamp and wish to back it off one step these will do it. Chart below for substitution specs.
