Welcome!
Lots of DIY interest in speakers from new members lately. Maybe you guys should get together.
DIY is great for hobbyists who have all needed tools and skills and are happy with 20 year old technology, but speaker design isn't as simply as most think, so recommend using a kit. Secondly try to listen before you build (hard to do with any DIY project) and measurements just give a vague idea of how it'll sound. Third unless you're an experienced cabinet builder recommend doing one at a time to check build-ability (will everything fit, can you get inside the cabinet to mount crossover/internal treatments, how will the finish look). Finally realize that resale value of any DIY project will be quite low.
40 years ago did a partial speaker kit (a pair 6 cubic foot bass cabinets). Had heard them previously. Everything went well even though was pressed for time, until the veneering (veneering options were horrible back then) and lacked tools/skill to do the job right. Enjoyed them for a few years but ended up giving them away.
