When I saw--------I knew I just had to buy it!

For me, when I saw my amps, I just new I had to buy them.

I went down to Indy to go to the Indy 500 Time trials and stopped by Klaus's to pick him up.  We went to his storage shed where he wanted to show me some things and those bad boys were there with the tops off.  It didn't take me too long to negetiate for them, I think it was within 30 seconds..just long enough to lift my jaw off the ground . 8)

Next thing I knew I had to have was a Teres turntable after seeing pictures and reading about them on the net.  They are even nicer looking in person.

I knew I had to have the EA modded Perp Tech P3a when I heard it...

Oh yeah, there's one more thing I have to buy, since I've seen it, but that shall remain unsaid for about 6 months anyway

What did you guys HAVE TO buy after seeing or hearing it?

Dunlavy Alethas , their looks were very appealing  but that was secondary to their performance

The Teres sent me into drool mode and I'm finally almost there. I remember coming home and telling my wife about the 10K vinyl rig I'd just heard. The look on her face was priceless.. well maybe not priceless, it was worth probably about 10K. :)

Well, it's not a piece of stereo equipement but.... when I saw this guitar, a Dan Armstrong "Plexi" guitar , I knew I had to buy one. Found one at Sam Ash over 30 years ago. Still have it today. Put a lot of "miles" on that guitar, and it still plays great, and I would never sell it..... :guitar:

In 1968 Ampeg's new owners began a relationship with Dan Armstrong, contracting him to develop and produce the well known lucite basses and guitars bearing his name. The instruments, listing at $330, debuted at the '69 NAMM show and were produced until 1971 when Armstrong severed his relationship with Ampeg. The guitar version featured a 24-fret neck and slide-in pickup modules, enabling the player to choose any of the six available pickups and thereby alter the sound of the instrument. Pickups were originally designed in conjunction with Bill Lawrence and then by Armstrong alone. The guitar came standard with two pickups. The innovative tone circuitry in the guitar used a three-way toggle to switch between full volume independent of control settings, the tone and volume as set by the controls, and full bass.
The bass, also with a 24-fret neck, was wired differently. There were no slide-in pickups. What appears to be a single pickup is actually two stacked single-coil pickups encased in potting compound. The tone control fades between the larger bottom pickup through a capacitor at one end of the adjustment, to the top treble coil at the other end of its range, with a mix of the two in intermediate positions. Later versions included a switch to bypass the treble coil and introduce another capacitor resulting in a lower bass tone.

Both the bass and guitar featured maple necks with rosewood fingerboard. Of the thousands of intruments produced, eight guitars and eight basses were made with black plastic bodies and 150 fretless See Through basses were made. Rumor has it that a few were produced in red and blue plastic.

Hantra's audio PC.  It sounded like a great analog rig to me... with no crackles or pops. ;)
It took a while but I finally bought one.

Also, the 2nd generation Miata's.. when they came out, I had to have one.  :)

In the category “I saw it and had to buy it” would be the ’73 Dino seen to the left. That’s me taking a friend on hot laps at Sears Point. In the category “I heard it and had to buy it” would be the main components of my current audio system: speakers, amps, preamp and turntable/arm/cart. The AN DAC is a stopgap until I finish making my own.

     8)    I felt the same!  I felt the same about the '90 as well and the two 124's and the MG and the Saab Sonnet... guess I'm just a sucker for under-powered rag tops    Okay, so the Sonnet was a hard top.

My '96 M3 in Arctic Silver with M Contour rims.  The car is timeless in my eyes.

I'm with you Zoodog.  I lusted after the E36 from the time it came out and the M3 was the pick of the lot - visually and in terms of performance (without sacrificing comfort).  I bought a 328i (fiscal constraints would not allow an M3 at the time), then got bitten by the track bug. A few upgrades followed including an M3 suspension and M Contour wheels (which I preferred to other BMW and aftermarket wheels).  I would not have gotten rid of the car had I not moved overseas.

Even today, I think a well-cared for E36 M3 is gorgeous -- if it were a person it would be a well-mannered champion middleweight boxer in a suit.  The newer 3 series can seem a bit heavy, like a great boxer that's been sneaking a few jelly doughnuts.

Do you still have your M3?  I drove a couple with the Dinan suspension -- highly recommended.  Better control and handling than stock yet in some ways ride *improved* (e.g. when driving over railroad crossings).

Well, it is not audio, but this thread seems like it has a broad approach.
This bike I bought not for what it looked like, but what I knew it could look like...
Pic 1 is the tired old GSXR that I bought off the track, to pour my time and some money into.
Pics 2 and 3 are what the bike looked like, when I sold it 2 years later.

That bike was number 9 of 14 Suzuki GSXR's that I owned during my second stab at university, in the late 90's.

    B,
You and I must be of kindred spirits.  I was just going to post that I first saw the SL500 roadster at a MB driving event (LoveMercedes tour) this past September.  I drove it on a "test track" layout about 4 or 5 times.  It was unbelievable.  It made getting into my ole' 540i seem sluggish. Someday...someday. :)
