Hello everybody,

I'm new to this, but on the steep part of the learning curve. I have a lot to learn about woodworking and particularly finishing/veneering/staining.  I already built a pair of Curt Campbell's TriTrix (sound good, but boy did I mess up the staining) and a pair of FrugelHorn XLs using Alpair 10p's.  The FHXLs didn't come out that well either.  I didn't quite clamp them flush, and they came out worse than the TriTrix. But with judicious use of bondo and sandpaper, I got them finished and they sound great.  They look decent from a distance, but quite a mess up close. I am now embarking on a pair of Halcyon speakers, also designed by Curt Campbell.  I have very high hopes for them.  I may be one of the first to build them, but probably not the last.  Curt told me that he auditioned all of his high-end speakers to one of his opera singer friends, and that person liked the Halcyons better than any of the others.  The flat pack I am using is available, if anybody is interested, from Bob Berner on DIY forums and elsewhere.  Here is a picture of my FHXLs from their most flattering angle (can't say that about many backsides):

Welcome!

Ah the travails of DIY woodworking.  I built transmission line bass cabinets in 1980.  Everything was good (even though one ended up a 1/2 narrower than the plans called for) until I got to the veneering (which was before internet and very primitive in those days).  Wouldn't dare show them online even if I had an image.  But they sounded fantastic.  Currently run commissioned AlNiCo single driver (Fostex F200a, 8 inch, no whizzer, no longer available) Martin King MathCad inspired transmission lines.  Have heard and like Alpair drivers.  And have owned speakers using first order crossovers.
