Greetings fellow audiophiles,
I am Sergio, retired process engineer (chemical) located in Accomac, Va. I have sold my dunlavy sciva and theta digital gear and starting from scratch to build a reference 2 channel system. It will be based on Magnepan 3.6R driven by Bryston mono blocks. All used gear. I have a dedicated room (lucky, lucky) 35' long, 19' wide, and 9.5' in height. Wife says you can do whatever you want with it (she is a keeper). It is bare right now. I started the process of placing the speakers a couple of days ago. I can tell already I will not be satisfied with the bass unless I augment the Magnepans with something. Strongly considering a dual kit 5 system as an addition. I would love to hear from other Magnepan users for suggestions, etc...

  Certainly check out the "swarm" sub system. Or OB sub kits from GR research.

I'm not too far from you - Brodnax Va.

I owned 3.6's for a couple years and struggled with them. Could never get used to the energy of that ribbon! I now have Dunlavy SC-III and like them a lot.

I would suggest room acoustics as a good place to go next. Focus on bass traps/treatments then whatever you add down the line to reinforce the Maggie's bottom end will have a better chance of working out for you.

As Charles said, check out the Swarm by AudioKinesis and open baffle bass kits by GR Research. Either of these two options will provide you with a SOTA solution.

Hello, Sergio!  Welcome to AC.

I used to live in Virginia (Norfolk) and after that Beaufort, North Carolina - both watery places, though not so much as yours.

I am using a Bryston 4B3 with my Janszen hybrid electrostatics. I recently added a Torus Power RM20 to filter the power going to the amp and protect against surges (I believe you have a LOT of lightning there). Though I have always been skeptical of power conditioners, and some I've tried I didn't like, I found the Torus unit worked very well with the Bryston, increasing liquidity and ease of the sound. So, you might try that some day and see what you think yourself. I know that now, I would not be without it.

Except for the front panel and slightly lower cost, the Torus Power RM20 is said to be the same as Bryston BIT 20.
