New Old Audiophile
« on: 7 Jan 2020, 05:56 am »
Hello, I've been building my system for over, and then over, 20 years and finally am looking to upgrade to a better sounding system now that I'm settled in a house.   I'm Thomas.  Thanks for letting me in.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome!

We all go through stages of gear satisfaction and then have to scratch the itch again.  The key is soul searching for what you want, materially and sonically.

This is a great time to redo your system, especially if you're interested in streaming music thanks to Tidal, Qobuz, and Amazon HD fighting in the CD quality streaming realm.  Options exist (look into NAD) to capture those streams (and internet radio) without using a computer (except as an option to control).  And prices for gear have never been more attractive if you shop carefully.  Another trend that has finally caught on among audiophiles is the use of active speakers that can be cheaper and better performers than traditional passive speakers.
