Still searchin for audio equipment
« on: 4 Jan 2020, 03:45 pm »
Hey all, I believe I have already posted an introduction post but Audiocircle wants me to do it again to view anything.

I've got a pair of Ascend Sierra 2's powered by Parasound A21 with a Cambridge 851N network player. I love this setup. I did have a pair of Sierra Towers RAAL that I wish I never sold. I'm looking to setup my turntable, a Musichall 2.2. I have a Cambridge phono pre amp but I am in search of an integrated or a preamp that I can feed into my amp. I'm looking to be able to integrate an amp into my 2 channel setup but I'm finding not a lot of preamps have a sub out. And if they do, they don't have a high pass filter for the main speakers.

If anyone knows of a preamp with sub out and high pass filter and ideally a headphone amp for around $1000 new/used, let me know!

I’m pretty sure he means $1000.

FWIW, aren’t sub outs something more common to receivers than preamps? Most people run speaker cables to their subs.

 Have you considered a Proceed AVP, the model with a round knob in the upper right not the earlier version with the split knob.  Purchased one for 400 on ebay a couple of years ago.  It was sold as a home theater pre/pro.  However, the various trade/audio reviews stated it had a Mark Levinson No23 preamp section.  A very small factory remote comes with it.  Best part Balanced outputs for left, center, and right channel, one set of balanced inputs.  If you don't use the balanced pre outs, it has the rca preouts also.  It has a single sub out.  Not sure if it has a crossover.  Lots of inputs in analogue and digital.  Used mine both ways, saving it now for a dedicated two channel system.  Folks are going to tell you home theater pre/pros are no good for 2 channel, this AVP is the exception.  Just my 2 cents worth.

A little above your price range, but the Parasound P6 might meet your requirements.

The Klipsch Powergate is an integrated amp but does have an RCA out so you can use it as a pre. It rocks and you should read the powergate thread here on AC for more info.

Welcome to AC.

Every current Parasound preamp has the features you’re looking for. The Zpre, New Classic series, and Halo series. And they’d synergize with your amp.

Safe and Sound is a Parasound dealer that carries new, open box, and B-Stock stuff. I’ve bought a few things from them and they’ve been good to me. P6 in black or silver for $1250, b-stock with full warranty.

Edit: the Zpre doesn’t have an internal phono stage.

I think Parasound is now having a sale where they give you credit on your original price on equipment that you send back to them. (Though I'm pretty sure you'd have to send them the original receipt too. Who keeps those?)

I own the Zpre, very nice clean sound but no subwoofer out, no phono stage and the powergate is the piece I replaced it with in my desktop system. Although the powergate is an integrated amp it has an RCA out AND a subwoofer out. The powergate also has a great DAC and built in dts playfi streaming. I got mine on amazon but here is the info from klipsch:

You have any links?  I couldn’t find any info on this.

Btw, I keep my receipts  :thumb:

Nice gear.  I've owned Ascend Acoustics CBM-170's (predecessor of the Sierra) for roughly 20 years and still love them.  Have heard Parasound too, good stuff.

To gain subwoofer output suggest looking at the NAD C658.  Sorry it cost $1649 MSRP, but adds two analog inputs including phono input, two subwoofer outputs (fixed at 80 Hz), BluSound operating system, and <500 Hz Dirac Live to the Cambridge 851N.  Trading your Cambridge for the C658 should keep under your budget.  I own it's big brother (of sorts) the NAD M10 "streaming amplifier".
