Welcome Sam!
It's a great time to update your system, especially if you're interested in streaming. Entry level prices can score near top drawer sound. And it can be done without the cost and complexity of computers. High quality active monitors can provide great sound for as little as $200/pair with no need to buy a power amp. Many near State of the Art DAC's are available with preamps for under $500.
I run a NAD M10 "streaming amplifier" that has a touch screen or can operated via Android, iPhone, Windows, or Mac. It can connect to analog sources; various digital sources (optical, coax, USB, WiFi, ethernet, or HDMI); has pre-amp, dual subwoofer, and 100 wpc speaker outputs; uses a modern DAC chip and digital power amp section; and is sleek/compact/easy to use one box solution. Cheaper options exists from NAD too.
