They both used to (late 80s) have shops off of Broadway, near Tulane University, but they seem to both have pared down to one store in Metairie. I haven't been to Alterman in 20 years, but it looks like they are still trying to keep the good helpful local hi-fi store approach that they used to have. They seem inevitably to be focused on the low to mid-range home theatre and TV stuff that probably keeps them in business. Not sure what they have in the audiophile realm. It looks like they carry Golden Ear speakers which might be worth a listen.

+1 on Wilson Audio. They have been around for years. I listened to my first tube amp there. There is also Ellington Hifi over in Foley, AL. He is a really nice guy to talk with.
