Julien,

There are lots of postings here from some first class builders that helped me out.  Everyone has their favorite components (brands).  Each choice adds some changes to the sound.  I found the changes subtle (not dramatic, but sometimes important).

I liked the change to Rikens in the signal path.  You might want to add a Riken in R9.  I don't know if you would hear a difference with the change of this 1 resistor, but you wouldn't second guess yourself later.

C7 and C8 are important for the RIAA equalization and you might consider upgrading here.  The values are small so the cost is low.  I would consider getting matched values for the left and right channel if possible.  I would also match the resistors in the RIAA network between left and right channel.  I found most of the resistors to be well within 5 % tolerance, so matching should be easy if you order just a couple more than needed and pick the best matches.  That way the RIAA will be more tightly matched between left and right.  One less thing to second guess later.

Tubes - millions of combinations here and tube rolling is half the fun, or half the frustation.  Before you go to the dark side on NOS 12AX7, pick up a couple Sovtek LPS.  Nice new production and a good reference to other tubes you may have or buy later.  Rectifiers make a difference and they are relatively cheap.

It takes awhile for the unit to break-in.  Maybe 200 hours.  Not that it sounds bad from the start but things change for quite awhile.  So do your build and listen for awhile before you make any final judgements and pull out the soldering gun again.

Also, I have heard that the RCA jack make a difference.  I believe someone liked Vampires as a cost effective jack.  I'm still using the old jacks so I don't have first hand knowledge.

Best of luck,

Grant

...very nice sounding.  Definitely try the Sovteks...we rolled many other nice NOS tubes into the unit and nothing else sounded as good to us, so I think this is a great start, if nothing else...
