Request Frank's Input on Value of Omega 3
« on: 10 Oct 2019, 09:26 pm »
Hello,

I am pondering the sale of my wonderful Omega 3 amp that Frank built into a Hafler XL280 chassis.  He first put in Omega 2 circuits and later upgraded it to the Omega 3 when a small signal transistor had to be replaced.... "we can fix it or we can make it sound better..."   How can one resist that line?

This is a delightful sounding amp, voiced with "just a touch of honey".

It's also impossible to kill.  I  used it to drive Infinity Kappa 8's whose impedance dropped to 2 ohms at certain parts of the frequency curve.  It could drive these at quite loud listening levels in a large two story room.

Frank, what is a fair price for this unit?  The Hafler shell has aged well, I'd give it a 7/10 to be conservative.  I replaced the speaker terminals and if memory serves, a power switch, a long time ago.  The upgrades happened in the early 1990's.

My focus is now 2 channel analog so no rear channels at this time.  I may press my ancient ESS 7 speakers into that duty, if I do I'll keep Omega 3.  Or maybe just use them for side tables...

Anyway, curious about a selling price for old Omega 3.  BTW, I'm pretty sure I still have the shipping carton for it, too.

Very nice looking amp.  I’ve always loved the look of the Hafler.  Good luck on the sale.

It's a great sounding amp, too.

If memory serves, this is considered to be a high current version of the amp as it uses 6 output transistors per side.

Perhaps Frank can chime in with the definitive answer.
