I picked up a Sonic Impact amp yesterday since I was already in the vacinity of The Parts Express Warehouse Showroom. TPE sells the Sonic Impact for $29.xx and they do have some in stock. Interestingly, when I asked how they were selling, the owner told me they were selling great.....in Italy!

Anyway, I got mine home and was trying to figure out how to test it. I didn't want to buy 8 "AA" batteries 'cos I'm really cheap! So, I went in search of a 12v wall wart in the house somewhere. I looked high and low and couldn't find anything @ 12v, so I resigned myself to waiting until today to buy batteries and test the SI.

So, I sat down at my desk and turned....on....the.....Tivoli PAL radio! Hum, it's a rechargable battery powered device, let me check the wall wart charger for it. And there ya go! A 12v wall wart AND a quality, portable, battery powered source component!

Anyway, I hooked up the SI using the PAL wallwart, connect the output of the PAL to the SI and INSTANT MUSIC!. It sounded very good and I listened to my local college radio station's weekly blues program for an hour or so.

So, anyone looking for a cool portable music system, get a Tivoli PAL radio (which sounds pretty good on its own), a Sonic Impact amp and a pair of small speakers and you will impress your friends and family at the next get together!

Enjoy,

Yes, I know a lot of people will read the original subject line and think I'm talking about a "Battery Power Source" and think this is about a DC power source to power the SI.

It was an unintentional "brain teaser". Battery powered source, battery power source..........humm, looks the same until you re-read it a couple-o-times............

Enjoy,

I know this reply won't likely reach its intended target because of the title of this post, but I did just want to mention this to anyone looking for a good deal on a tuner.

I LOVE the Tivoli Audio PAL radio! This thing is great! First, it is a very good sounding portable radio that has a built-in rechargable battery. It goes anywhere and it works when you lose power in your home and may need to hear public service announcements via the radio. It has a very nice tuner that has much better performance than the tuner in my expensive HT receiver. It has a headphone/pre-out that will allow you to listen to phones or use it to connect to your home audio system. When used this way, the tuner outputs a STEREO signal over the mini stereo plug.

I've now used the Tivoli with my Sonic Impact and with my Channel Islands VMB-1s and it sounds very good. Since there is little to listen to on the radio, except a couple of local college stations, the Tivoli is all the radio OR stereo tuner I'm likely to ever need.

Enjoy,

TIC

Just thought I would second your opinion on the PAL.  The tuner in it is terrific.  Sound is good.  Built-in rechargeable battery is great - always ready to go in case of a power outage.

I use it with my laptop's headphone out as a source at home.
I also have a Tivoli Model 1 at work that I use the laptop with at work.  Very convenient - I get to listen to a lot more music now.

The S-I amp likely is selling great in Italy because of a glowing review from TNT-Audio, one of my favorite DIY sites, which is based there.

What Ampere rating does Tivoli power supply have?  SI really comes alive with serious amperage.  I'm currently using a 10A linear power supply, and the sound is dynamic as all get out..

I did the "Schilling Manouver" and bought an Everstart car jumper at Wally World for $39.  Works great and runs for 20 to 24 hours loudly.  I noticed that my SI sounds better with a thinner battery cable after trying a 5amp rated one for a while.  Strange.
