Without having heard a VMPS speaker I decided on the basis of a recommendation by Jim Piscitello of Next Level Audio & Video in Franklin Wisconsin (whom I've never met but with whom I've corresponded for about two years on the Def Tech forum) to purchase a LRC and airfreight it to Sydney Australia:

LRC w/FST, Rosewood Finish, TRT caps

Well it finally arrived today and it’s beautiful!

The sight of the magnificent finish and the quality of the cabinet was way beyond my expectations and even my sceptical wife (who says I'll never stop upgrading) was knocked out.

Naturally 30 minutes later I'd removed the Def Tec 3000 and installed the LRC.

All the notes and particularly the dialogue are crystal clear and yet smooth and relaxing.

Gone is the stridency and harshness I've been battling to totally eliminate for the last couple of years.

I'm fortunate in that I've a proper LEDE room and now I'm really getting the benefits of all the planning and work that’s gone into the setup.

Unfortunately, I'm going overseas on Wednesday for two weeks so the system won't get much playing time between now and then but upon my return I'll update my impressions (and possible upgrade impressions regularly).

Thanks very much to Brian and Jim.

Regards

Darryl

Darryl:

Welcome aboard my friend and I am very pleased you have not only found the LRC to your liking but from the sounds of your initial impression from both a sonic and visual aesthetic's standpoint, it has exceeded your expectations.

It is always good too when our wives come along with us on this too!

Enjoy your trip and look forward to talking to you upon your return.

Jim

Hi Darryl,

I hope the wait was worth it

Since Darryl lives "down unda" (and we don't ship there often) just about everything that could have gone wrong with his order DID!! :?

But thank goodness when the speaker fired up it was music to his ears.

Hmmmm...Do I see VMPS mains in the future?

Have a good trip, and I'm sure Jim informed you of a small "inconvenience credit" we have for you on your next order to say thanks for all your patience.

Hi John

Thanks very much for the kind gesture.

I can assure you that we're both so impressed that upgrade discussions are already actively underway!!!

The sound has been a revelation for us and has made the very large investment in my setup totally worthwhile.

I've mentioned to Jim that I've seen postings suggesting 626R as fronts for HT use.

Is the RM30 preferable to the 626R Signature Edition purely for HT?

Regards and thanks again.

Darryl

Ps. I wonder if anybody other than Jim, realises what a leap of faith this was and how pleased I am to be able to hear the LRC.

Not only did I purchase never having previously heard a VMPS speaker but, a few days BEFORE ordering the speaker I learnt I had to urgently have an operation to remove an acoustic neuroma with a 50% chance of total permanent deafness in one ear!

The operation was 100% successful but unfortunately I contracted Gram Negative Meningitis (over 80% fatality rate) and then spent a further two weeks on intravenous antibiotics in hospital.

Hi Darryl,

The RM30 is by far the better HT speaker (L&R mains) for any but the smallest theater.

Why, because it has 3 times the neopanels and many more times the "woofage".

626Rs and LRC's can easily be used for side and rear surrounds.

I had a client the other day who had a very interesting way to use the LRC's as side surrounds.

He had them mounted on shelves (at ear level) on the side walls.

When watching films, he laid them on their backs facing up and somewhat "bouncing off" the side wall and ceiling.

When listening to multichannel music, he faced them "in" to fire about 6" to a foot above his head.

While I didn't hear it (although I did suggest it) he claimed it sounded incredible for both applications.

The 626Rs can also be used this way as long as you figure out a way to lay them on their backside and not block the port.

Darryl,

Glad to hear you are recovering well.  Have any pics of the new toy?  The LRC isn't shown (especially in rosewood) on the VMPS pictures sticky.

I'm glad Darryl likes his rosewood LRC.  Wonder what this forum would be like if VMPS owners didn't like their speakers.

We made the mistake of crating Darrl's LRC in plywood.  Australia quantines and gasses all wooden crates, leading to delivery delays and costs.  Solution: crate with fiberboard, which we will do in future.  Should eliminate a lot of headaches.

Blame it on the wood borer, a parasite Australia is trying to keep out of its borders.
