Does such a receiver exist?
« on: 9 Aug 2019, 11:29 pm »
Ok, a little background.  Been out of the game for a bit.  And yes, a bit lazy at the moment to search.  In my defense, it is Friday evening .  And who am I to question the overall wisdom of this selective group.

Anyway, I kind of repurposing some speakers for hopefully a rear speakers, along with subwoofer duties.  Speakers are mildly hungry.  Lower good watts would probably work. So anybody make a receiver that you can bi-amp the rear speakers?

Thanks in advance for the time.

Just a thought: if someone knows, can you use zone #2 outputs to do that? Don't they use those channels as rear/side surrounds on 7-channel setups?

Mine allows you to biamp the fronts, but not the other speakers. I guess they think you don't need that functionality.

How about plan b then.  Older pre-pro with similar back channel bi-amp or running full range for built in subwoofers.  Do not care about all current bellls and whistles.

Thanks again for time.

I'd guess as long as your receiver has preamp outs for the rear channels, there's probably stuff like:  https://www.amazon.com/Planet-Audio-EC10B-Electronic-Crossover/dp/B002QUZHXW

I think AVRs let you set the surround channels to either large (e.g. full range), small (where the low frequencies for these channels) are sent to the subwoofer or not present.

I would expect a pre pro to be able to do the same.

By bi-amping do you want to send two full range signals to each rear speaker or do you want to split the signal to high and low pass for the woofer and tweeter?

Don't repurpose for rear speakers, repurpose for height channels!
Get a 7.2 receiver that let's you select either rears or heights from onkyo/yamaha/denon.

I don't think you can biamp without it being a PIA in either scenario.
