What's the best way for clean cutting acoustical foam?

FoambyMail suggest an electric turkey carver, I currently don't own one, but if that's the Circle's concensus, I'll buy one.  I'm just thinking the oscilating blades will really make a mess of the edge.

I was thinking of taking my large (6") straight edge and fresh blades on a box cutter, multiple passes.

Help? :o

Nope, no mess at all.  The carving knife is the only way you'll get a clean edge; it works like a charm.  Get a metal straight edge, put a piece of scrap wood underneath and you can cut perfect lines in the foam with a little practice.

I've watched custom car interiors put together where they cut that carpet pad -like foam with a knife very similar to an electric turkey carver.  I think they have a pro version meant for upholsterers but the turkey carver should be pretty darn close.

Sounds like a good idea to me.

A close second to the electric carving knife is a softly serrated bread knife, but it takes a good hand and "no pressure" cutting strokes. 8)

And, you can use it (an electric) to cut turkeys, too.  (I recommend brining a turkey, btw.)

Well, I can move my right arm in a back and forth movement a lot faster than I can move my left arm.  Years of practice......

That's more information than we needed.

I trust that practice was not "with" the knife shown :nono:
