Hello :-)

Well, i have put a system together in my mind that i am highly considering of buying. Here it goes.

NewForm Research 645R
Velodyne HGS 10 (for movies and maybe music)
Golden Theater GTX-1 Processor
A DVD Player, havent looked yet.
For starters i hook up the Krell KSA 150 to it.

But do you guys now of a great 5 Channel AMP (maybe digital wit the req inputs) for around 2K $ used?

I put more emphasis on 2 channel than on 5.

Thanks for all the great ideas i know will come ;-)

I'd take a very close look at this Gemstone 5 channel amp, it's getting very good reviews.

Also Odyssey makes some very good amps you might be able to pick up an HT3 and pair it with a stereo Stratos

They are based on the German Symphonic Line of amps...

Here's a side by side review of the Gemstone with some very expensive multichannel amps...

I use an Odyssey Audio Mono and Stereo Khartago amplifiers for front three channels and IRD-MB100 mono amplifiers for the rear channels. You can purchase all these amps new for just under $1800. Another excellent five channel amplifier that is being offered for an introductory price of $2500 is the Threshold Audio S/3700e.

Have you tried the ATI?  I have also seen several Outlaw amps (made by ATI and Sherbourn) for a very good price.  Outlaw offers deals on B stock units on their website.  They are very heavy and seem to be well made.

Also, I just remembered, AV123 has some very cool, very SEXY, new amps.  Haven't heard them but those guys are very cool and are known for their customer service.  I"d give them a look also.

Thank you guys for all the info. I have finally made up my mind and will just change the speakers and go the MC route once i get a job

I believe that the Jolida and the Krell are a great match and that the Maggies and the room just dont work with it. I did get a great offer on a new pair of The VMPS Ribbon Monitor 30 that i will buy.  My system will be 2 channel for now and i can live with that.

I dont really want to sell the Krell or the Jolida, and i think that the VMPS are more of the speaker i am looking for.

Thanks again, this really is the best audio forum on the net.

Velodyne Choice

Florian,

Have you considered the Velodyne HGS-12 instead?  I used to own the HGS-10 when it first came out but it was not enough to handle the jet engine sounds out of Air Force One in my 14' x 18' room to the levels I would like.  Very muddy and boomy at higher volumes.  I went with the HGS-12 and it is more than enough for the room.  Great with movies and superb with music.  I am using a Parasound 5-channel amp driving a set of Magnepan 1.5s in the front, Magnepan 0.5s in the rear and an Eminent Technology LFT-XII for the center.  The HGS-10 is definitely geared for smaller rooms.  Just my two cents.
