Previously there has been a strange model price point in the VMPS line.

The 626R was listed at $1598 and was a Stand mount Monitor

The RM1 was listed at $1580 and was a floor stander

Then you went all the way to the RM2 at $2690

Well things have changed.  The RM1a has been introduced and the RM1 is now discontinued.

The RM1a has the spiral ribbon tweeter, a single Neopanel and rather than the dual 8" woofers of the RM1, it now has a front firing 10" Woven Carbon Fiber MEGA-woofer of the RM40 family, and it still retains the slot loaded, down firing 10" Passive Radiator.

The RM1a will beautifully fill the cost and performance gap by offering a high perfromance floor stander, that will retail for $1780 per pair assembled, or $1380pr kit.

Stock finishes are still Light and Dark Oak.

The RM1 has always been one of my favorite "side or rear surround" speakers, since it can be place up against the side or rear walls, and maintains the correct ribbon/neo height for 5.1, 6.1, 7.1, and multichannel music.

We expect to have the RM1a available in 6-8 weeks.

I am posting this as an announcement, and will either move it or delete it when it is no longer needed.

John,

I was preparing to order a pair of standard RM 1's (No megawoofers)
because I thought I could squeak by without too much fear of being evicted.  I am now afraid, that with the 10" megawoofer, the RM 1a
will cross over the line, and not be feasible as an apartment speaker.
(Thereby eliminating VMPS floor standers from consideration)
I really don't want a bookshelf/stand type speaker, and I wonder how many other apt. dwellers feel the same.

RM1 was discontinued aprox late 2002; VMPS first speculated on arrival of the RM1a (as described above) aprox same time.  VMPS floorstander's bass output can be minimized via PR tuning, placement, preamp/rcvr bass adjustments, cables, etc.  This seems to nullify the above reply favoring the long-discontinued RM1 vs. the RM1a (when/if it appears).

Hi Jack,

So sorry for not seeing this earlier.  With my e-mail server (verizon) I don't get the little e-mails notifying you when someone responds to a post. :(

Generally I find them, but this one got away.

But anyhow, you actually sound like the perfect 626R candidate.  While it is a "stand mount Monitor, I don't think many would call it a "bookshelf"

At 2 feet tall, more than a foot deep and almost 50# it is a very formidible Monitor, indeed.

Many think it is perfect for Apt and Condo dwellers, and I do too.

It is basically the same price and configuration as the RM1 was and most would think it better sounding.  Beleive it or not, "especially in the bass".

Since it too, only has the single Neopanel, it is incredibly good at lower level listening.

Why?

Because the Neopanel must be more highly energized at lowerr levels since there is only one.

So the wattage/amperage going to the Neo at low levels brings it into it's "better performing" power area, before it gets too loud.  This means it will have richer tones, detail, resolution and other sonics, at lower levels.

Now the RM1 had this same single neopanel, but, it did not have Woven Carbon Fiber woofer drive system.

Oh yeah, the woofer on the 626R does bass right.  Very nice clean and polite response well down in the 30's.

Another advatage many like, is that you have the freedom to mount the speaker on a stand at a height that more closely matches your seated listening height.

In any event, you wouldn't be missing too much by selecting the 626R Standmount.  It is a stellar performer.  I should know, I have a pair in my system!!

Hi DuDro,

Nothing yet.

Brian is on vacation.  Maybe when he gets back he can offer an update.
