New Member Computer Audio

Hello Everyone,

Doing some general research on music servers. I know there are some fine ones on the market, but I like the idea of trying to maximize performance of a laptop, etc. Just a project I find interesting. Looking for insights and strategies about how to take a commercially available computer and get the best audio performance out of it. Brands, processors, RAM, HDs, software, tweaks, connections, etc.

My level of technical understanding specific to computer audio is intermediate, but I have a science background so I can grasp technical concepts without too much difficulty. If anyone can direct me to some great "getting started" threads related to servers, I would appreciate it.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome.

Using a laptop will only get you so far.

A favorite PC to tweak is Apple mini.  Check out Mojo Audio for ideas.

Going farther look into Raspberry and NUC, the current popular DIY options.

Welcome Brother! I've looked into this a little myself. My plan has been to use a fanless computer on the network and RuneAudio on raspberry pi connected to a pre or dac.
