REALLY Cheap and Cheerful IMMERSIVE Audio

For those of you curious about immersive audio but not wanting to bust the budget this is a GREAT starter thread.
IF you already have a "surround sound" setup of 7.1 you will need to get another pair of matching surrounds (if 5.1 get 4 matching surrounds)

Using an Auro 3D layout take your surround back channels and move them to the surround height position above your L-R front channels.
Take you new matching surround speakers and move them to the rear height positions (above your surround L-R channels).

Get one of the immersive receivers from Denon or Marantz that include auro 3d and you are all set.

Here is a video on speaker setup:

Pretty soon I'm going to help my dad set up a HT in his new home, I might give this a try there.

Nice, those receivers are available at accessories4less for a nice discount. Does he already have some speakers?

Can you please post prices for a complete system in order to determine if this is appropriate for C&C?  Thanks.

I'm also curious on the price. I was under the impression that it was only the upper-tier receivers that were upgradeable to Auro3D - a $1.5k+ proposition once you got the software upgrade.  Not 'serious cash' as far as high-end audio goes, but certainly way outside the bounds of this circle and anything I'd call 'REALLY cheap'.

Sure, you can get a receiver capable of 2 height channels and 5 bed channels (plus a sub) for around $200:

https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrs730h/denon-avr-s730h-7.2-ch-x-75-watts-a/v-receiver-w/heos/1.html

If I were adding speakers with a Denon or Marantz receiver I would go Boston Acoustics (a D&M brand) and get 7 of these (less than $150 a pair):

https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/bosa25gba/boston-acoustics-a25-5.25-2-way-bookshelf-speaker-gloss-black-each/1.html

and finally a sub:

An immersive system, all in for $1k.
Receiver= $219
7 matching speakers= $546
1 sub= $249

You could spend less by getting the Soundware speakers and obviously spend more.

Yeah, the REALLY cheap is aimed at surround sound owners of a 7.1 system. They could actually just get that Denon receiver for around $200, move their rear channels to height channels and be able to enjoy atmos and dts-x content.
To do auro 3d you need to bump up t0 9 channels:

https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/item/denavrx4400h/denon-avr-x4400h-9.2-ch-x-125-watts-a/v-receiver-w/heos/1.html

I run 15.1 in the media room (auro) and 5.1.4 in the man cave (atmos). The atmos setup is great for watching movies and TV that streams in native atmos on amazon and netflix.

Check out those Boston Acoustics. I have a 2.1 system (soundware speakers and that sub) matched with a Powergate in the office and it rocks. I added another soundware speaker as a VOG channel in the media room (I now have a pair of VOG).

The bigger BA speakers would be better and are on special, buy one get one 50% off.

How is this thread any different than: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=150038.msg1734521;topicseen#new

???
Seems like just trying to DUPLICATE post topics in different circles.

This is a description of equipment you can purchase that is $1000 or under. The other thread is about the superiority (IMO and some experts opinion) of immersive audio as a technology.

I bought an Onkyo RZ 630 receiver for the man cave, NINE channels for less than $500. It does Atmos and DTS-X (no auro 3d) and it sounds great streaming atmos content from netflix and amazon in on the 4K TV.

https://www.amazon.com/Onkyo-TX-RZ630-Channel-Network-Receiver/dp/B07CW3F37L/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=onkyo+rz630&qid=1553116516&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I already had 5.1 and got 4 these for my atmos speakers. My all in cost to convert a 5.1 system to 9.1 was $450:
