Panasonic SA-XR70 mods

At long last the SA-XR70 mod is finished :D

For this one, I modded out the power supply, main amp board and analog input board. The binding posts and spring clips were replaced with Superior Electric, direct gold plated, 30 amp binding posts.

The power inlet was replaced with an ACME Audio Silver Plated IEC.

This unit also has Bybees in the main speaker positive lines. I ran NITRO speaker cable direct from the amp board to the main binding posts. For this one, the bi-amp relays were removed for the best sonics in straight two channel.

A mod of this type, without the Bybees would run $800.00. To wire up the relays to allow Bi-amp operation, the cost would be $900.00.

Wayne,

What are the Sound quality benefits?

How are the mods on the JVC JVC RX-ES1sl comming along? Is there any way to bypass the additional processing on the inputs? DVD-multi is the best sounding input all others seem to add additional processing that degrades the sound as you know.

Thanks
Dennis

Now that I have finished up the SA-XR70, I can spend more time on the JVC.

I am not sure what your question about benefits refers to.

I'll be the obvious one here...the benefits are that the mods make it sound so much better it isn't even comparable to be honest.  My xr-45 is super pimped and still burning in, and I am so pleased that I can't believe what I am hearing!

Question, since Bi-amp relays can be removed, is it possible to wire up the XR70 with a 6.1 binding post configuration by using the "B" post bank?

Thank Wayne, I'll be eyeing that JVC upgrade when it becomes available. The only thing that concerns me is the is the additional processing for the inputs other than DVD multi.

Maybe the new line of JVC hybrid digitals will address that problem.

Thanks
Dennis

Yes.

The SA-XR 50 AND 70 could be wired up that way if you do not wish to use the "B" speaker position.

In fact, there would be one extra set of terminals then. You would have to decide what connectione go to what binding posts. I would say maybe the center front and rear can be hooked up to the "B" speaker posts.
