Here's a nice article on a dedicated room (a temple to the audio gods IMO). This guy has his room/rig posted on Agone http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue16/lavigneroom.htm

Amazing- they guy spends a bazillion dollars to treat the room, then winds up using the same dumb chair with a back that sticks up over ear level! :o     It's like ordering a filet mignon & lobster and then pouring ketchup on it. :?

I should be so lucky as to have a room like this, or at least the $ associated with it

Anyone else find that room cold and lonely?  What's the use in enjoying music if you can't enjoy it with someone?  It looks positively sterile to me.

Yeah i agree.. The fact that there is only that one chair there adds to its loneliness.

Put those pictures of Chuck's bathroom away for the last time please  Marbles   You're right about the room looking lonely-it's big enough where at least you could put two chairs side by side

I've fantasized often about having a Fortress of Solitude like that...but with a low-backed chair.     He could use some warmer colors, though, maybe some burgandies and earth tones.

Dude probably spent more on cables than I have into not only my system but also our entire home remodel...

However, if you're trying to make a statement, he certainly did.

I think the room is freakin awesome, but then I thought his first room looked incredible too?

I would definitely put more seating in there.  Either more chairs or a couch.

Dudes got some bucks, that's for sure.

Based on the photo's, what do you think this guy has invested in equipment?  How much for the room?

I agree that the cables alone probably cost more than all the hi-fi I have ever purchased in my life.

OK, I added it up from the audiogon site - just in Valhalla cables ALONE he has 11Meters at $22k!!

Add in another $8400 for power cables and you're over $30k without even adding in speaker and digital cables

Speakers? $77k
Turntable?  $55k

that's certainly a nice room, but not what i'd do, if i had the means...  first, i agree w/the negative aspects about the solitude of it all.  second, i wouldn't want any hard surfaces behind the 1st reflection point of the speakers.  in this room, there's a hard floor, windows, & that bowed wall.  i'd want all that covered.  if i were gonna have any hard surfaces, it would be *behind* me.  third, i would not want my equipment basically out in front of one speaker like that.  in this case, there is so much room behind the speakers (a good thing, imo), that the equipment could be placed against the front wall in the center, w/much less interference to the sound, & perhaps less sonic disturbances to the equipment itself.

in any ewent, it's still a wery nice room.  of course, if *i* had a barn like that to start with, i'd have it turned into a nice garage w/a hydraulic lift, workshop counters/cabinets...

Hi Doug,

I agree.

I actually posted a link to the same system a couple months ago with similar critcisms, but deleted it since I didn't want to be hypercritical of a system that someone obviously put a lot of thought into.

I think it is a perfect example of Acoustics Experts, building a room for someone like they would treat a "performance venue" and not a "reproduction environment".

BIGGGGG Difference!

All I got to say is "Wow now that's a room" But just looking at it leaves me with a cold feeling.

damnnnn... that's a lot of dinero... guess it was about time he did the room upgrade since it was the "weakest link" ;)

like jcoat007 i also would have been mighty happy with a room like his first one...

If I were him I would open that up to the public, install a couple rows of seats and charge admission!  If it sounds as good as it looks who wouldn't want to listen in a room like that!?

Colors are really depressing, though.  A truly beige nightmare there.  Heh!

I also love those cool step stools like they've got in the library!

Mike Lavigne's  house is not far from where I live.  He invited me over to hear his old system - maybe I'll ask for an invite to hear his new one.   :)

I'd love to have that room!!   i don't think it looks lonely, you can always bring in chairs, but for solo listening, he's in the cockpit.

Oh.. here's more pictures on Mike's construction
