From the intense opening scene of Overlord with soldiers parachuting into France during WWII to the action packed ending this classic war film (with a twist) will keep you glued to your couch. Be forewarned there is plenty of surprising and visceral scenes which are even more intense because you get to know and care for the soldiers on their suicidal mission hours before D-Day starts. There are also humorous scenes but, admittedly, dark humor.
The excellent first half of Overlord is a homage to classic WWII films with all the characters we know and love from the 1960's war movies that stared actors like Victor Morrow. The second half is better than the first as the survivors race against time.
Wyatt Russell, son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn, is perfect as the badass battle hardened explosives expert. Directed by Julius Avery with a lot of help from producer J.J. Abrams, the production values, makeup, editing and sound are all A+.
