Hello from Mexico
« on: 1 Mar 2019, 06:56 pm »
Hello to all,

As here in Mexico, having a $3,000 USD amp or speaker is definitely out of my reach, I'm looking for advice on how to get a reasonably priced, cheap and cheerful system. I currently have a pair of KEF Q100, an old Yamaha stereo amp and my computer feeding a SMSL DAC.

So I'm looking for approval from the mods so I can start discussing topics and hopefully someone here can help me improve and tweak my system.

Welcome aboard Estuardo :thumb:
If you have a small or mid size room you can use a fullrange driver as Classic10Alnico or Wild Burro Alnico, which will save you some cash as they dont need expensive xovers or even biding post.

If you have a handy carpenter near you try this $1095 pair:

For less price $375 pair try the Ferrite version:

David Dicks will supply the detailed enclosure plans to you after the purchase.

If you can build a cabinet, or have access to a cabinet maker,  I believe these are by far the best deal on speakers that are superior to others under $1200.  It's a kit priced just under $400 USD.  The owner ships lots of speaker kits internationally.

Welcome!

My C&C favorites:

JBL LSR 305 Mk2 ($300 USD/pair active 2-way compact monitors).  I own the big brother 708P's but could easily live with these long term.

Topping DX7s ($500 USD fully balanced DAC/preamp/headphone amp).  Measures well, good design, and runs all formats except MQA.  In this age of constant digital advancements, it's hard to justify spending more but anything less is a toy.

Your choice of digital source(s)

Welcome!

For speakers, look at Decware site. They have plans for the DNA Horns for $19.95. You might can build a pair for $300 or less including the drivers and cabinets.

Those would sound good with your yamaha amp and SMSL dac.
