Sorry needed to be more precise,
In the phono stage there are 4 tubes,
volume/balance 2 tubes and
power 1 tube.
this is an older model I'd say around 25 or more years old.
thanks

You need replace the tubes with the exact tube model NOS or new production. In the 1950s years there was more than 5,000 different tube models on the market.
What tubes models this equip use?

Robertod,

Please ignore the above  nonsense!  :duh:

Per the AN manual:

Congratulations on your purchase of the Audio Note (UK) M1 Line Pre Amplifier.

It is a pure Class A, Zero Negative Feedback design, employing a single ECC82 dual triode valve.

It has been specifically engineered for sonic performance rather than technical specification, and offers an outstanding level of performance and value.

It fulfills all Audio Note (UK) Level 1 criteria: -

Pure Class A operation
Zero negative feedback
Materials and component quality

The M1 Phono Pre Amplifier also incorporates a high quality Moving Magnet phonostage which uses selected examples of the ECC83 and 6DJ8 valves.

TUBE COMPLIMENT
1 x ECC82     This is the line stage. So any of the following tubes      12AU7 / ECC82 / CV4003 / 5814A
1 x 6DJ8       This is phono, so low noise tubes.  So any of the following tubes   6DJ8, 6922 , 7308 (6922 or 7308 are premium tubes)
1 x ECC83     This is phono, so low noise tubes 12AX7 / ECC83 / 7025 / CV4004 (7025 is a premium tube)

There are many variations of these tubes, especially in European designations.  You have some flexibility in the phono stage, such as a 5751 rather than ECC83/12AX7, depending on the output of your phono cartridge. There are also some Russian analogues to these tubes you may want to research.

You said there were 4 tubes, so maybe an earlier or later model than the manual that I have. (No date on manual.) All of these tubes are 9 pin dual triodes.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Geary

Thanks for the info.  The Audio Note sounds very nice.  There are a total of 7 tubes;

2 tubes for the vol/bal line.

4 tubes for the phono stage &

1 tube for the power.

some of the lettering is gone from the tubes, but what I could make out is
12au* for bal/line for the phono 12axu** and the power is *814A.
the * stands for I can't read...
I appreciate all your help.  I would say this Audio Note is 25 years old or older.
thanks,

Thanks for the info.  The Audio Note sounds very nice.  There are a total of 7 tubes;

2 tubes for the vol/bal line.

4 tubes for the phono stage &

1 tube for the power.
Volume and balance are typically potentiometers, not tubes.  Audio Note typically built a component with a board for each stage/function.  So there should be three boards in the unit. 1 board for B+ and filament power supplies.  1 board for the line stage and 1 board for the  phono stage.  It would be most helpful to see some pictures inside the preamplifier.  They are probably dates on each circuit board.

some of the lettering is gone from the tubes, but what I could make out is
12au* for bal/line for the phono 12axu** and the power is *814A.
the * stands for I can't read...

thanks,
12AU* would be a 12AU7.  My guess on "12AXU**" would be 12AX7WC,  The *814A  is probably a 5814A, a  variety in the 12AU7 family.

I found a 1995 schematic for M1 linestage and M2 Phono stage.  The schematics show 1 ECC82/12AU7 in the power supply, 2 ECC82/12AU7 in the line stage and the M2 phono board has 4 ECC83/12AX7 in the Phono stage. Seven, (7) tubes.

Photos would help confirm.

Geary

Thank you very much.. if you can verify from pic with your schematics, then I can upgrade tubes. Great!!

I think we are really close! A close up shoot of each board, and the capacitance value on each of the large caps would make an ID much more positive!
