Denon DP 75 in VPI Plinth Will Separate

So I can only comfortably fit two turntables on my rack, so one has to go. It was a tough choice between this one and my SP 10 MK II. But the Technics came from a Japanese audiophiles home, and not a beat up war horse from a commercial studio. So I am keeping the SP 10 MK II as I am not going to find one like this again. Actually, the tables sound about the same, and the DP 75 sells for 1/2 the price of the SP 10 MK II.

I will part the Denon drive unit from the VPI plinth.

The DP 75 uses a two piece platter that isolates the top plate from the main platter, and is great for isolation. This table works fine, holds speed, all lights work, the strobe has strong output, and all switches are solid. On the back right edge there is a small scratch in the finish, but you have to know its there and you cannot see it except from the far side.

Will sell drive unit for $500 plus shipping

Sorry for the dust, I just wiped down the table, but a little bit of the paper towel must have gotten left behind.

This is the rare VPI plinth that was from the time that the company started. These were built for direct drive tables like the Denon or the Technics SP 10 MK II. The top plate is 5 layers of steel, with sheets of dampening material between them. It is incredibly massive and inert, the perfect mount for a quality direct drive table. The top plate sits on springs, and the case has a walnut frame. There are a couple of small nicks that I thought I had sanded out when I refinished, but perhaps I had put them in there when I set the top plate back in.

The springs are a bit primitive, and owners in the past have replaced them with sorbathane pucks, or even sections of closed cell foam. I have tried the foam and it works really well. This plinth is not only a bit of history, but its a great platform to make a cost effective plinth for a Denon table. the arm hole is drilled for an Acos GST 801. If you want to use an arm with a different mounting length, you would have to install an arm board.

Sell for $350 plus shipping. And given the size and weight, plan on spending a few bucks.

Interesting. I was unaware of the sandwiched plinth. From the pics I don't see how you would mount a tonearm board unless you cut the plinth to accommodate one? The plinth looks like the Jr. concept, one solid piece? GLWS!
