Which STs are really SSTs?

I think this has been answered before, but possibly not all in the same place....

If I understand correctly one or two amplifiers were originally released with the "-ST" name, but were actually made to SST specifications, and, when the SST series was officially launched, were simply rebadged. Which ST models are actually SST spec?

Yes the 6B ST and the 14B ST were the first of the SST Series designs.
The only difference is a small change in the power transformers and cosmetics on the 6B SST and 14B SST

James,

my understanding is that the 6B ST and the 6B SST are more or less the same. Only a small change in the power supply differentiates them.

Now, can a 6B ST be upgraded to the 6B SST?
If yes, would it be economically feasible?

Thanks!

Markus

Hi Markus

Correct - the 6B ST was the first but as you say we changed the power supply in the SST2.  It can not be upgraded though as the transformer is larger in the 6B SST2 and the chassis mounting and channel placements are different.

Hi James,

thanks for your input!

So,

6B ST => 6B SST squared - no go

what about 6B ST => 6B SST non-squared - the same?

Cheers!

Markus

Hi James,

Are the power ratings the same for the original 14B-ST and 6B-ST as the SST released versions. I didn't see manuals for the original versions on your technical webpage.

Please let me know. Thanks!  -chad

Hi Chad

I believe so - if there were any power differences they would be very small
