Hi there,

My listening room is 23' x 14'. I have the speakers firing along the long axis, 6' from the back wall and 4' from the side walls.  My listening position is therefore quite a long way from the back wall, maybe 10' or so. I have a couple of DIY fibreglass base traps in the corners behind the speakers, 4 DIY 2" thick panels along the walls at the first reflection points and 2 panels in between the speakers on the wall behind them.

I am wondering if it is beneficial to have a mobile DIY 2" thick fibreglass panel which could be erected a short distance directly behind the listening position.  I know I need some treatments on the wall and corners behind the listening position and also on the ceiling.

What is the most effective place to focus on next,

Any advice is gratefully received.

Thanks,
Russ

Russ,

Common wisdom would suggest hitting the first reflection points on the ceiling before concerning yourself with the back wall reflections, especially with as far back it is from your listening position (worry about the shorter reflected distances first).

I agree with Russ about RFZ on the ceiling. Also, I see no reason to make a "mobile" absorber. If there's a problem with reflections off the rear wall, you can just treat the wall. If you want to use a stand, put it against the rear wall rather than out in the room.

Thanks guys, I will address the ceiling first.  I guess my main query was to the benefit of an absorber close behind the listening position rather than treating the rear wall which is a long way away.

Cooments have been much appreciated, thanks.
