Does your Panasonic SA-XR50

I remember buying an SA-XR50 and noticing a high pitched noise from it.

I posted about this and some people said that they had the same problem and others didn't.

I would have kept the receiver had it not been for this high pitched noise.

It was loud enough that I could hear it from my seat but it was very noticeable when i was near the unit.

I'm wondering how many Panasonic xr50 users out there have this problem so I know whether to risk purchasing another one.

I have two SA-XR50s and they both emit a high pitched sound. it has something to do with the digital input circuit. i know it changes when I change inputs. It doesn't bother me that much because I don't have a quiet place to listen anyways.[/quote]

Hey Tomek,

In the months since the first postings about the noise, I bought a new power cord (PS Audio Power Punch), and the noise has almost completely disappeared. When i first hooked it up, the noise was still present, but after a day or so, the sound was gone. I recently noticed that the sound has returned, but at a MUCH lower volume and far less frequently. I can definitely live with it, and am pleasantly surprised that replacing the PC accomplished this.

I bought the Power punch cord with the regular IEC connector (in case I want to use it later with a different receiver), and added a IEC-to-C7 adaptor from Take Five in Canada. Not the best combo, since the plug now sticks out at least 6 or 7 inches from the back of the unit. I believe there is another IEC-C7 adaptor on the market that adds a bit of cable length between the two plugs, but is considerably more expensive. OR you could get the Power Punch with the C7 plug.

Some say that a highly shielded PC may affect the sound, but I haven't noticed any discernible negative difference in sound quality. YMMV.

Really? You never noticed a noise?

Do me a favour and put your head near it and tell me if there is no high pitced noise coming from it.

The noise would change from input to input.

I've had mine for about 2 months, no noise, very quiet.
Using coax digital input (stereovox) hd whatever it is, and analog
input from DISH network.

If I lay my ear on the unit I do hear a pulsing sound almost like you would hear in a car system that is picking up noise from the ignition system? Does that make sense. I have a computer in here that has drowned out the noise I guess. So lets change that to a yes there is a noise but its very, very quiet.

I have one, no noise at all. I actually put my ear to it last night when running analog in from the tv, nothing at all.

That high pitched noise could be from the switching power supply, some of you may not hear it because it may be out of you're hearing range. I have an external switching supply for my computer. If I turn my computer off, but leave the switching supply on, I can hear a high pitched noise, probably similar to what some of you are hearing. Its real high though, if you're the type of person that can hear the high pitched noise from crt televisions, you can probably hear this. I have an xr10 and tried this, but couldn't hear a thing, so who knows for sure.

I dont hear any noise, either directly from the receiver or through the speakers..Nothing ..nada ..zilch.
Try plugging into some other socket in the house. Mine is connected to two daisy chained power conditioners (Furman Power Factor Pro and a balanced power conditioner). And has an upgraded power cord with an c7/IEC adapter. So probably no noise gets in or out.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I have heard it.
The owners of the unit couldn't hear but I suggested they take for service if it became noticeable to them.

Perhaps it went away or diminished over time because the last time I was there and checked I couldn't hear it. There was a certain amount of noise floor of stuff going on at the time but at least it wasn't noticeable. They leave the amp almost all the time as they have their TV output through it.

trying to interpret the data, i think that maybe the one suggestion that some people may not be able to hear the noise makes most sense.

i'm 27, and i can always hear the high pitched noise of the CRT, the computer power supply, so perhaps that is why I hear this.

I guess i'll stick with the xr10, which doesn't have this noise at all...

I think it's down to the individual unit. On some electronics the coils or caps will resonate causing the high pitched noise. I remember seeing a TV repair guy spray a varnish or something on some high voltage coils that helped cure a TV of it's high pitched noise once.

aww man i was really thinking about getting this unit but i hate the sound of all the power supplies i can think of.. tv's, my computer.... argh...

I hear the high pitch noises from my CRT television and computer monitor as well but my XR45 is as quiet as can be. DEAD SILENT.

I've also got a custom powercord I designed myself on the unit that is doing wonders for it as well so that might help too.

I originally voted No but now I hear my 50 when volume is from Off up to -34 to -30 position; it's dead silent above that. Source is paused/inactive. It doesn't matter whether I change volume via knob or remote. Should I worry about it?

I must say that it's only audible with my ear pressed against the grill.
