Stratos Mono Issue - Any ideas?
« on: 11 Dec 2018, 06:57 pm »
Hi All,

I have an all Odyssey system for a long time now for my setup. A pair of Stratos Monos, Candela pre and the Epiphony (version 1 probably)..since a couple of days, when I turn on one of the monos, there is a loud crackle on the speaker.  I have swapped speakers, speaker cables, power cables and same problem. I thought it might be a ground loop issue and I plugged in just the amp and the speaker in a different room on a different circuit (no inputs whatsoever) and I still have the same problem.

At this point, I am assuming its an issue with the Amp and I will need to send it to Klaus to take a look. Any other ideas I could try before I send it to him?

If there's a speaker output fuse, check that first.

On amps and receivers I've had a blown output fuse causes very low audio and/or scratchy sounding output.  One would think it's just go dead silent but they don't.

That's usually correct...there are 4 internal fuses...check them...sometimes it's hard to see whether they are blown,  so if you can't test them,  just take the 4 pcs out and swap the fuses from the other amp and see what happens...if the crackle still persists,  then it's probably a transistor,  in which case I'll need the amp back...at which time it might be a good idea to re-cap the amps anyway....call me !!!!

Klaus,

I opened it up and yes, one of the fuses is blown. Any specification on what I should replace with or is it generic? I will call you to discuss sending both in for some upgrades that I have been thinking of anyway. Maybe Kismets are in my Kismet..:)

thanks

Iam not an expert as Klaus but imo you could replace with any same ampere/voltage rate fuse and the same type: slow or fast blow.
