Volume controller GK-1

Hi,
Regarding volume controller, i assume Stepped Attenuators have the best audible results. Also their problem seems to be their price.
Did anyone implement such a piece in a GK-1 ?
Or are the 24 steps just not enough to have a decent volume control in the system?
I found this product wich seems to be quite cheap...

.. not a DACT though !

Not sure if they are from the same source. Have a read at this long post.

a lot of those things at that aussie site are coming direct from DIYzone.net in taiwan... and at quite a hefty markup!

Yes, Filipe,
It's the same one as the DIYzone versions from Taiwan. Identical, and probably supplied direct from Taiwan as well - I have one in fact.
Switch is serviceable, but no ELNA. You get what you pay for......
Cheers,
Hugh

An off topic about attenuator.
Can someone recommand an alternate cleaner from the one DACT recommended. They recommend Tuner 600 by Kontakt Chemie but I can't find them here in NZ.

Hi All
In regards to the comment about hefty mark ups I noticed in one of the links that whilst the initial price may be low, the shipping costs may be more than the item itself, in the order of $25USD! This makes the asking price of the unit in Australia appear to be quite reasonable to me. If the main rotary switch does its job and is reliable it seems like a good deal (to me at least).
I just wish DIY Zone had an English version of their website for all of us English speakers to browse!
Lastly a question for Hugh, does this stepped attenuator sound good to your ears?
Cheers

ah but bluesky, DIYzone.net has a flat shipping fee... any number of items, same price.... here in Singapore we bought over 20 digital amp kits from them a while back and the shipping price was fixed
maybe it's time you learnt to read a little Chinese!

Hi Echidna
Well that sounds like better news!
I recently got a Chinese pen friend with whom I have been talking via email. He desperately wants to learn English and I had a stack of educational CD's from my volutary work as a literacy and numeracy tutor which I burnt for him and posted off to China.
This conviced me that I should learn some Chinese and I hope to start lessons very soon!
Cheers

To enjoy the full sonic benifits of your new volume control, be sure to choose the right knob
Talk about hefty mark-ups!!!
