I can’t really think of any, but I’ve got something related that I think we all can all relate to...
The Beastie Boys released License to Ill when I was in 6th grade or so. I loved it and my parents hated it. It was the first time I heard the phrase “one-hit wonder.” Somehow they were still at it and relevant until MCA (Adam Yauch) passed away in 2006 from cancer. Yeah, great call with that one-hit wonder prediction
And despite that they thought I’d only like them as a kid, I own their entire catalog. I was giving my mother a ride a few months back and had a Beastie Boys song on. My mother says “this is a pretty good song; who is it?” I chuckle and say “the Beastie Boys.” She says “wow, these guys have been around forever” to which I replied “yeah, that one hit wonder prediction went exactly how you thought it would. They stopped making albums when one of them died of cancer a few years ago.”
Then I sneakingly played a Metallica song. She asks “is this Metallica?” Pretty much the same conversation, only I liked them a few years before the “One” video everyone went crazy for. And they’re still making albums.
I asked how her parents felt about the Beatles. She said “they just didn’t get it.” I just smiled and nodded.
