Desperate...terrible McIntosh problems
« on: 17 Jan 2005, 02:52 am »
In the last 14 months I have taken possession of 3 McIntosh MCD 205's, 2 MVP 851's, and, last week, the new McIntosh MVP 861 universal disc player. Every single one of them has failed to play properly. Usually it is just specific discs that it/they refuse to load, although one of the MVP 851's ate a disc and refused to eject it. In the last 3 hours the newest addition (the MVP 861) has failed to play 11 of 40 discs I've loaded into it...all brand new and from a variety of labels including EMI, Naxos, Deutsche Gramophone, etc.

Between various Mac's I've used an ARCAM FMJ CD33 which played everything I tossed at it as did my trusty Pioneer Elite  45A universal player.

The problem... I LOVE the Mac sound and really want this to work. Have any of you heard about anything like this? WTF?!?!?! is going on here?

And I know the obvious thing to do is forget about Mac products, which may ultimately be the outcome, but ATM I'm totally bummed out.

Sounds like my Xindac CD player.  It sounds so good that I can't part with it but it constantly refuses to play certain discs.  Not nearly as many as your Mac though.
