The break-in period of my SACD 1000 purchased in new in January ended up with the unit itself breaking as in it the display flashes briefly when I hit the power switch and that's it-just a faint click, flash, then nada    :x  . If you're thinking of getting your 399.00 Tweeter special modded, you may want to give it a few months and see what happens. At least it's got a two year warranty as mine is heading for the Philips service center in the morning...

That's why I didn't get mine modded and sold it instead.  I didn't want to take a chance and have a 25 lb. paper weight with no warranty.  I wish you the best of luck.  YOu are fortunate not to have had it modified.

Mine went bad after about 5 months, athough it made excessive noise with a few redbook discs from the beginning.

The trasport would whir but no other function would work. The display would show a bunch of dashes. It is now at the San Jose facility being repaired.

The Phillips SACD 1000 retailed for $2000.00 and was their statement player when it was first introduced less than two years ago. For a top of the line SACD player to die after 3 or 5 months use is totally unacceptable to me. I hope they fix mine so I can turn around and sell it before it dies again.

I have a Marantz/Superscope Pro grade Burner (CDR-500) tht has two Philips transports in it. It is less than six months old. It has been flaky from day one, sometimes "chattering" or adding "scratching" sounds during playback.  A few days ago it began a new ailment. It will record a CD, but refuses to "finalize" the disc.  I called the service department and was told that more than likely they could repair the problem, but replacement of the defective transport was out of question as none were available(!) and the service charge may be as high as $350.00!  This is half the price of the machine!  Needless to say, I am now avoiding purchasing ANYTHING that has Philips componentry in it.

There is evidently a fix for the Phillips 1000 now.
Check out the SACD/High rez forum at the Audio Asylum for more info.

Ears,

Please point to the specific thread at AA.  I can't seem to find it and my SACD1000 has been acting squirrely.

Anyone have their SACD1000 lose TRACKING of a DVD between chapters for 1-2 seconds (i.e. frozen screen).

It happens to me on EVERY DVD!  Any remedy for this?..........

BTW, this thing has less than 6 months on it.
