I saw the shuffle thing the other day but the Mac mini is news.  I must say, that is pretty damn cool.  I wonder if it gets hot enough to cook an egg, though.  Competition for Norhtec's miniature machines.  Of course, nobody knows who Norhtec is of course...

This could be another "Cube" disaster though.  (overheating little bastards which turn off if you look at them funny)  I do like the price, however.

The one thing you can't miniaturize is the keyboard and the monitor, unless of course you can also miniaturize the human body!

I'v been a PC user all my life, but I must say that I would love one of these as my second system.

In regards to it over heating.  Now this is purely speculation but I don't beleive that it will be too much of a problem.  It uses the same chip that the laptops use with a power consumption of 21-30 watts (new P4s use up to 100 watts).  Now if it is a problem, there is hope on the horizon as a new version of the G4 processor for the Macs will be coming out.  It will have a higher clock speed and a power consumption of only 10 watts.

Also remember that the power supply for the Mac Mini is a wall wart and is not inside the case.  That helps the heating problem tremendously and provides much of the space savings.

these things have been around for years, just not in a currently fashinable white box... see these examples: http://www.cappuccinopc.com/slimpro-sp625f-fanless.asp

NOrhtec was not bringing out anything new with their mini server thing either as there is literally hundreds of micro and nanoATX devices around

you can even buy the plain motherboard and DIY yourself a system in the box of your choice:

there aint nothin new under the sun!
