Loreleis & Tubes
« on: 10 Jan 2005, 04:16 am »
I've just acquired a tube integrated, a Rogue Tempest, which in triode mode puts out 40 watts/channel.  I'd like to get more tube-friendly speakers than my current NHT ST4s (86db, 8 ohms).  My room is basically 18' x 17', but  with a pass-through to the kitchen (8'x7') and an opening to a short hall in the back, 8' ceiling, fairly hard acoustically.  I'm intrigued by the great press the Loreleis have gotten.  I'm wondering if they'd be a good match with my tube amp, and whether I'd be giving up much on the bass end of things going from a 3-way to a 2-way.  I'm sure the Loreleis offer a level of refinement that the ST4s can't, but I don't want to give up too much in the way of bass.  Thanks.

I've been running a Primaluna Prologue 2 Integrated Tube amp with my Loreleis for the past few weeks.  The combo sounds outstanding.  I don't think I'd trade it for anything right now.
Previous to the Primaluna I owned a fully modded SA-XR45 dig. amp which was good but not as good as what I have now.
The 45 excels as a HT amp which became a lot more apparent to me after listening to the Loreleis with the PL, as the PL is all about making good music.
As far as the bass with this tube amp and Loreleis I believe it to better than the 45 which has been a real surprise to me.
