I enjoy reading in Audio Circle. I have started learning about tube gear in my older age.

Welcome!

There's much to learn about tubes.  I dipped my toes into the tube world a few times but didn't have good experiences (flabby/exagerated bass a couple of times, blown tubes a couple of times, no difference with/without on a preamp/then a DAC that had that option, no difference with some tubes on a really nice tube amp compared to early class D amp).  Friends with tubes typical make their systems sound warm/thick/syrupy.  In the right system I'm sure tubes can sound good, but several of the experts claim that the very best tubes sound like the very best solid state, so what's the point?

Thinking of tubes, vintage can be cool, in fact I'm more drawn to old big speakers than many new ones.   :green:

Welcome OB. As Jeff says, tubes can be nice, but they most certainly are not the end all be all.

Unfortunately the point is the price(hi), a hi quality(expensive) SS amp also sound good. I heard some very good Jeff Rowland, not cheap.

Hello all! Thanks for welcoming me.
I am currently listening to a quad of JJ 2a3-40 in a pair of monobloks I built!
I understand a little bit more about tube amps because I used to work in a Magnesium and Cl2 plant which had Rectifiers, regulating transformer, anodes, cathodes and such! SS makes my head spin.

To me its sounds good in all areas but i aint no audiophile. I built it off Pete Milletts design. My first scratch build!
