SOLD: First Watt (Pass) F5
« on: 28 Apr 2018, 12:43 am »
This is an over-the-top build of the First Watt F5 created by Nelson Pass.  This is THE MOST popular amp Pass has made under his First Watt brand.  Details can be found here - http://www.firstwatt.com/prod.html and here - http://www.firstwatt.com/f5.html

For an idea of just how good this amp is, here's an excellent review that really captures the flavor of this amp - http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/firstwatt7/f5.html

In some ways, this version I'm selling is better than the amp reviewed above.  It has a massive copper plate used as the ground plane, which means this amp is QUIET!  All First Watt designs are quiet, but this is next-level quiet.  Part of why I loved it so much with my 97db efficient speakers.   Also, there's much better binding posts used - Cardas Patented Binding Posts - http://www.cardas.com/cpbp.php

One other thing First Watt amps need, more than most, is the ability to BREATH.  The case for this is fully vented, which is just perfect for this design.

There are a couple of cosmetic flaws - there's a bit of discoloration in the upper left side of the faceplate (looks like several small circles, you can see it in the pictures).  The 2nd is a small blue smudge on the right edge of the faceplate.

Here's some pics:

Anyway, this thing is a BEAST!!  Way overbuilt and it's the best measuring F5 that Jim (JL6) has ever measured.  And he's measured a LOT of them.

Asking - $800

Is this a Tim Rawson clone or did someone else build it?
