Hello all,

I’ve been in this a while and have had vintage SS and new SS. Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and so am looking at changing things up! Here for recs and to offer any advice albeit quite amateur.

Thiel, rega, VPI current setup.

Cheers!

Hey guys, thanks.

I’ve got a loft apartment living area 25x20 which is well dampened (as possible) with rugs everywhere. The room has 12’ cement ceilings. Honestly it’s a bit of a lost cause all around because of the brick, concrete, and wood. I’m running Thiel 2.4s’ with a 105w Rega integrated. I lose a lot of detail at low volume because I think the room swallows a lot of it.

The best sounding source on this rig has been tidal>audirvana>Metrum NOS DAC.  Stuff from the 40s-70s can be stunningly nice, which is a new experience for me.  After 1980 it goes downhill quickly save for some select artists/recordings. I realize that these speakers aren’t going to mince words, but I’d like to not give up on them yet because they do amazing things. Never thought Johnny Mercer could sound so good

I’m dying to try class D monos (have a pair ordered) with a valve preamplifier. Modwright SWL 9.0 looks very nice. Something in the $1300-$2500 range; used is okay!

Would prefer a ‘newer’ design with soft-start, microprocessor controlled, etc. yet with a ‘tube’ sound. A little bloom and/or grunge is okay. I had a McIntosh c2300 years ago and found it anemic; more so than any SS I had before it. Other shortlisters are the Rogue RPs.

Cheers!
