Using XLR the 'standard' is to use the 23dB gain with them.
However either way is perfectly fine.
I have used 29dB gain with my BP-26 to 4B-SST² via XLR.. Mainly because it had more 'pop' and sparkle.

Though right now I am using the 23dB gain as it is a little more mellow.

Then the affect on your preamp volume control may help you to decide.

I would try it both ways to see which you like/
(though shut off the amp before flipping the switch..._)

With my system, 23dB sounds smoother and allows me to use my preamp vol more fully. I can also flip the gain of my preamp with my remote (LS27 ARC). That's my preferred adjustment.

I mute my preamp before flipping to 29dB on 14B-squared.

Try both. Use whatever sounds better for your musik, like El. sez above ^.....
