Wow. I don't have a flash system, far from it, but this blew me away.. I hooked up my 2 of 3 completed channels to my system to get the hours up while I finish my LH channel. I finished adjusting them last night (this morning at 3am) and thought it already sounded better than my current gear but blamed the time...
I tidied up the wiring today and hooked it up with a spare 'came with the video' RCA cable and me and the missus listened to Brothers in arms.
Theres a small hum but I still have to build the shields for the tranfos and its only audible at high volume without music anyway.
I can't explain what I'm hearing, only that it's like I have a new CD collection! I can only imagine whats to come... :o
I have put some photos in but theres still a lot to do. This case is a bit of an experimental test bench thats cost me $2.00 (and a few lunch brakes)and I will redo it again once I have lived with her for a while and hopefully have my GK1 and I can build a complimentry pair. I still have a fair bit to do, anyway. More missed lunches to come... Sorry about the long post, but.. I'm wrapt..

This is one of the coolest faces I've seen.
I love the way the disecting groove intersects the rim of the switch and then
the 3 blue power lights....very clean!!!
Where did you get the power switch?

Right you are Echidna, with the relay as well. (noisy little bugger, that relay)
I am in the middle of adding a garage to our house and was at the dump throwing out the waste when I saw an ally sign that was straight. As my mind was ticking over I also spied an old case with PCB/card slots that I thought may come in handy. I asked how much and they took me to the cleaners for $2.00.
I cut and glued the sign into 3 layers with the top layer drilled and cut to create the recess. After sandblasting the recess I sanded the rest of the face. I have put a protective coat over the top wich seems to be pretty good. The other bit I got was used for the grill below the heatsinks. I'm planning to use the PCB slots to mount the power boards when I can make a bracket up.

The reason I took the junkyard approach was because I live in an isolated town and it would cost a ton to get made. Once I build the GK1 I'll look at doing a better job replicating this one or get another face made. I still have a bit to do on this one like putting a textured black finish on the wood to mathch the heatsinks and sandblast the grill below the heatsinks to match the face. I also have some nice countersunk screws for the face and a few ideas for some feet.

I work in an Iron ore mine and hope to get a piece of ore cut, drilled and polished for the face but that will have to wait.

That's a cracker of an effort for a rubbish dump case. Don't fool yourself - your ingenuity and skill have created a pretty impressive looking case from some quite innocuous material.  What you've ended up with is as good (if not better) than many of the efforts that have come before (I can think of one straight up - mine - well the first version anyway).

Such skills will serve you well for the GK-1. Which is far easier to build (I reckon) but a right fiddly bugger to do a case for. Especially if you have a minor problem with impatience like me. My solution for a GK-1 case was probably a little costly but then cheating should always cost more.

As for that switch. Hmmmm. It's probably your fault then that the two I ordered are still on back order.

Martin,

Lovely case, nice finishing work, elegant line through the LEDs/Switch.

Commendable Australian ingenuity with a gimlet eye on cost......

Love it!!

Cheers,

Hugh
