Disk drive on the way out?
« on: 6 Feb 2018, 07:09 pm »
I've got a Lenovo Ideapad 500 i7 and all of a sudden I've had a problem with a couple of cd/s when ripping.

First was a Black Stone Cherry which refused to rip the last track via EAC.
Next was an Eagles which just sat there causing stallage and EAC to crash once the rip started.

I changed software, downloaded MusicBee as a comparison and the same happened.

Got an external usb cd drive and away we went, both disks no problem via EAC and MusicBee.

This sort of behaviour from a disk drive normal? I've done the driver update etc to no avail.

If the CD/DVD drive is new as you said, it should be with excessive vibration due to an inefficient clamp, the last track is located on the out side disk and vibrates more. There may be other causes of this problem too.

No it's the usb drive that's new which gives no problems.

The drive in the laptop has hardly had any use but seems to be acting up a bit.
