Pro Audio, Home Theater, and Car Audio Interests
« on: 30 Dec 2017, 02:36 am »
Hello Audiocircle Community,

I’ve been involved in home theater (Bryston 4B, Mirage M1, etc.) and car audio (Focal Utopia, PhoenixGold ZX, passive/active crossovers, etc.) for 30+ years. I also operate a project studio (Neumann mics, API preamps, Neve preamps, Empirical Labs compressors, etc.). I’ve used a lot of different products over the years, and want to stay apprised of emerging product releases, performance comparisons, and the service experiences of others who care about quality sound reproduction.

More than 15 years ago, I bought a used Bryston 2B, and it has been used to power passive nearfield monitors in my control room ever since. It is officially labelled as a 2B, but it has heat sinks and gain attenuators on the front, and a captive AC cable on the back (minus the remote turn-on). Long past its 20-year warranty period, it is needing some upkeep. I’m hoping to learn from the experiences of others regarding options for caps, resistors, and transistors.

Hi, wonder how loud level you use compressors for hi-fi music?

Welcome to AC

I still like car audio but haven't had a system in a long time.  Phoenix Gold used to be the stuff, we sold their alternators and the whole line.  There's some really cool stuff out these days. like the processors that put the sound stage in front of you no matter where your speakers are mounted.

I did do some Pro sound but mainly sound reinforcement, small stuff.  We had Shure, EV and the like.

James from Bryston is very active on the Bryston threads, so I'm thinking this could be a good place to find what you need.  And, if not, it's an all round good place anyway, LOL
