Not sure I am an audiophile
« on: 23 Dec 2017, 04:57 pm »
Hello!

It seems it is mandatory to write few words here to be accepted in the forum. It's a pity, because I do not have too much to write.

I am sure I am not an audiophile because I am always happy to listen to music, even on bad equipment. I am in the science side and I have plenty of difficulties to understand audiophiles magic recipe with cables or bla bla bla.

Anyway I have plenty of equipment collected since many years, and with science I try to maintain them in good shape, sometimes with a lot of effort, reverse engineering and years of difficult learning. In the other side, in January 2015 I discovered AC when searching informations about TPA3116.  Then I went in China 2 years, and TPA3116 saved my music life (it is inexpensive, weight nothing and give you plenty of Watts when 2x100 is enough for you).

There I played with old radios and rebuild some of them with TPA, Bluetooth and Raspberry, for my pleasure and for friends.

Now I am back in France and internet is no more censored, so I can participate to the forum, because I went to TPA3255 (the EVM board) and I would like to share informations.

Sorry for my poor english.

Hi renaudrenaud,

Welcome to AC. I prefer to think of myself as a music lover more than an audiophile, but maybe I’m just kidding myself. Like most people here, I’ve always enjoyed good music. That’s where it all begins ...before the madness takes over.

John.

Hello and welcome to AC, renaudrenaud.  The science side is just fine if that's your confort zone.  I like to have an explanation for what my ears percieve as well.  When the explanation doesn't support my obsevations I become skeptical.

I like music, and I like sound. Occasionally they like me back, but rarely at the same time.  :duh:

It's two hobbies rolled into one. It brings unique challenges and special rewards. Nothing else like it!

Welcome to AC reynaud

Are you interested in the art and science of recording and reproducing sound? As far as I am concerned, that is all that is required to qualify as a audiophile.

At any rate, welcome to the sweet spot.

Welcome to Audiocircle, renaudrenaud.

If you are interested, you might research how amplifier power ratings are determined and how they can be made to look inflated.  The spec should ideally be made with both channels being driven continuously, over a realistic specified frequency range, at a specified impedance (ie 8 ohm) and specified (ie. low!) distortion.   Otherwise a 10 watt amp can be made to appear to be a 100 watt amp.

This shit was my first amp, many years after the manufacturer gone the audio magazine that praised it informed it was a crap and its power was only 50Wp/c:

Bonjour Renaud,

Habitez-vous a Paris?

If you do, I'll be there in February, and I could have a nice audio gift for you (I have a few things in storage that I want to give away), if you want.

Bienvenue,

Charles
