Long time no write. I have a friend who is asking questions about the DAKSA (or actually DAC's in general). Any word on timing or spec's Hugh?

Nothing yet I'm afraid.  I'll address this after Xmas;  but first priority at present is AKSenter - then prototype, documentation and sourcing for the DAKSA.  It's been a huge project, lots of obstacles, most to do with the pcb design.

While we're on this DAKSA subject, is there a provision
where the user can add their own favourite DAC chip
off-board? I am assuming of course, that the
3 or 4 wires going to the DAC chip from the receiver/re-clocking/DSP
circuit will be available to be tapped off to connect to the DAC.
I recognise this may not be the optimum solution and may
compromise DAKSA sonics. And then there is the issue
of proper impedance terminations for best sq waves etc.
I have a whole bunch of DAC chips
which I acquired and never really had a platform to compare
and this seemed like an ideal platform to do.

Certainly looking forward to the DAKSA.

Hi Tinears,

The medium answer is you can try, at your own risk!

The short answer is not really.

The long answer is the DAKSA quite deliberately uses a current-out chip so by using an "outboard" DAC chip you completely bypass the rather unique I/V circuit which has been tailored to the supplied DAC chip and makes up a decent portion of the DAKSA magic. With regard to tapping of 50ohm lines for other DAC chips, yes the DAKSA does essentially have a digital buss, but I doubt that the particular clocking arrangement would suit other chips.
