Nice small spakers with XR 50 or 70?

I am thinking of Panasomic's digital receivers seriously after reading so much about them.

I would like to pair them with nice small speakers like the MS genie or the KEFs. Anyone with these combinations? Need the small speakers to complement the home deco :)

Check out Energy's XL-150's
http://www.energy-speakers.com/xl1/xl-150.html

Efficiency is rated at 90dB "in-room" for the pair, with an impedance of 8 ohms. Amazing base for such a small speaker, will match up well with a sub if you have or want one. High WAF factor :-)

Here's a good review of them.

These guys have them for $150.00

You didn't mention a price range, so here are two very different options.

Check out the RAD Micros. I demoed a pair of these and was pleasantly surprised with the output. Pricing is $200/pr, but they might still have some clearance pairs a little cheaper. RAD has some nice small sub options for now and/or later. See the Rutledge Audio Design forum at AudioCircle.

Another to consider is the ACI Emerald Onwall starting at $700/pr varying by finish. Output levels will be much higher with these and the bass is shockingly good. Again see the ACI forum here and check the ACI web site for specials.

Good luck.

I second the emotion of RAD MICRO.  I picked up pair for rear channel in home theater using sa-xr50 and they were very good.  They look so nice, I moved them upstairs to living room , mounted under fireplace mantel.  Now I have toshiba 3960 dvd player going through a sherwood receiver and they sound and look wonderful.

My main speakers in downstairs system are carolina audio JTM, so you can see I like the single driver concept.  I am very pleased.

Third vote for the Rad Micro's.  They are very compact and sound great.  Brian's cabinetry is also excellent!

For a single driver the RAD Micro sounds less efficient. I would consider Anthony Gallo Acoustics  (roundsound.com) or their knock-offs orbaudio.com for the XR50 or 70. Single driver crossover less speakers will sound the best with the Panny, I suspect.

Polk satellites match nicely for mid to smaller rooms, although if you go that way then a carefully chosen sub is essential.

I own the Ascend Acoustics CBM-170s mentioned in the review of the Energys and I love them.  They blow away B&W, Dynaudio, or Paradigm at 3 times the price.  The cabinet finish ain't much for looks, but is great for frequent movers, those with kids, or living in the dorms.  Finish upgrades are available.  Note that the 170s got several E-mag recommendations, including one from GoodSound! that the Energy didn't.

Another great option is the TS-3 or Super 3 from Omega Speakers (check out their circle).  Louis is a great guy, has many cabinet finishes that all look great, and he's flexible.  He makes the 4.5 inch diameter extended range Fostex FE127E driver sound better than it has a right to in those small bass reflex cabinets.  It's gotten good reviews too and is more efficient.

What do you think of the Infinity Primus speakers (140s or 150s) with one of these digital amps?  Audiophile rated the 150s as best budget item of 2004 and compared them favorably to speakers costing 3x their price.

I haven't heard the Primus 150, But currently have a Phase Tech PC1.1II mated with a JVC rx-es1sl with very good results.

I have also had the JM Lab 706s and Optimus lx77 in my system and they both have sounded very good with the JVC digital.

As long as the Infinities are fairly a benign load, you should have no problems at all.
