Hi there!

What is the gain for this pair of D500s?  Is 38 db or 32 db?

Much thanks!

best,
mark

According to the instruction manual:

Gain:  38db (for use with VPC, PLC or other passive preamplifiers)

or 32db (for use with active preamplifiers)

So, rather than the amps being produced with two separate possible gains for all applications, the amps provide 32 or 38 db of gain depending on whether you are using an active or passive preamplifier.

Thanks for the reply!

If that is the case, is there a switch for changing the gain?

The current iterations of the amps are fixed at a particular gain and I thought previous iterations were the same as well.

The specifications in the owners manual on the website for the amps are exactly the same in my owners manual:

Specifications
Power Output: 500 watts @ 8 ohms/800 watts @ 4 ohms
Bandwidth: 50kHz
Frequency Response: 10Hz - 20kHz, +0dB/-0.5dB
Damping Factor: >1000
Input Impedance: 100k ohms
Gain: 38db (for use with VPC, PLC or other passive preamplifiers)
or 32db (for use with active preamplifiers)
Dimensions:8.5"w x 4.0"h x 13.5"d
Weight: 28 lbs (each)

So, I believe the amps are exactly the same -- the back is identical as on the website - no switch for gain, only a switch for balanced or single ended. You would have to ask Dusty why the gain differs depending on whether you have an active or passive preamp connected to them.
