i had a chance to compare Samsung 840 to Sony DVP s7000 as transports. The winner was clearly the sony. Samsung sounded very veiled and digital. It did have more mid and low bass impact, however, the shortcomings made it difficult to appreciate this.
I have changed the power cord on the Sony, which did imporve bass response (among other things), however, i feel that bass is still lacking. From what i can remember, ever with the stock power cord, Souny still sounded much better than the Samsung.
Other porblems with the Samsung were that it would not play Mp3 files recorded at very low or very high rates. And it has auto shut off after 30 minutes. I'm returning it.
