So I told my wife that I have a new amp coming tomorrow.  She took it pretty well, all things considered. Especially after I reminded her of the $2K we will be spending soon on a new (Panasonic or maybe Sanyo) projector TV.  The Vinnie-made battery powered Tripath chip amp, AKA the Clari-T.  What she doesn't know is that I will be one of the first in the world to hear this thing.  Unfortunately, the room where it will be played is currently occupied by a house guest so I won't really get to hear it for another 6 days (Dec 15).

I will report as soon as I can. If it beats the JVC ES1SL, I will be pleased because it works just great with my Omega Grande 8Rs.

nah, you'll be okay...it's only $300 and has decent WAF.

I'm sure you've broken her in on worse buys, by now....

You'll be fine, About three weeks ago I ordered a $640 pair of speakers ($800 msrp) on a Saturday morning, out of the blue and she couldn't believe I did it. She was mad for a little while and quickly got over it.

Now she is often dancing with the baby to Olivia Newton John tunes and thinks that the speakers sound great. They also match the entertainment center. What more can a wife ask for?

She only pushed it in my face the last time she bought three sweaters from the mall. So it goes.

Digital cameras I have. To post, I may have to figure out how to use our web-space on sbcglobal.  And, that $300 is really $400.  I also found out my house guest is going to be here till Dec 19.  There could well be other reports before I even get to hear mine.

Looks like SD Cty leads the pack in the digital revolution

Sem, if you cannot listen, keep it turned on so the chip can at least continue to switch full time. This represents little drain on the battery.

You wanna see a pissed wife, get drunk and let it slip what you (I) paid for a "silly" tube amp. (Art Audio Jota.) Biggest faux pas ever :o But man what a sound. We're divorced now. I sold the amp. I still love the amp. 8)

The battery powered amp is now hooked up and running with a spare Audio Alchemy CD player and a 35 yr old pair of 4" Jensen speaker drivers in a cube.  I'll say this much for it. It is cute and it works.

I think if I go get a Christmas tree tomorrow, my wife will have completely forgiven me.

I see you are a Jota fan...me too. Just to put things in perspective, how would you rate the Clari-T-Amp against the Jota?

I don't want to get into time-separated comparo-s here but suffice it to say I think the Jota is the best sounding tube amp in the universe. I eventually became interested in digital amps, and the Clari-T is becoming the best sounding "digital" amp I have heard.

Read the posts now showing up from people who decided to get one. You will detect some similarities to my own impressions.
